Freed Bulgarian Nurse Becomes Honorary Citizen of Home Town

Politics | July 26, 2007, Thursday // 00:00

The councillors from Bulgaria's town of Pazardzhik have unanimously approved Thursday the proposal to make one of the released nurses Valentina Siropolu an honorary citizen.

The local authorities adopted an extra article in the municipality's statute providing for giving the title to people, who "showed humanism and heroism in extreme and emergency situations".

The councillors have also changed the town's symbols, honorary signs, orders and titles so that Valentina could receive the honorary citizenship.

The nurse, who returned to Bulgarian two days ago after eight years spent in Libyan jail, will officially get the title in the autumn.
