A fire at Sofia's Alexandrov hospital in the early on Monday resulted in no casualties, because there were no patients in the psychiatric ward that caught fire.

The neurology clinic of the hospital has been emptied several days ago for planned repairs, which are still to commence.

The reasons for the fire remain unknown, but investigators suspect it was either a short circuit or the heat wave that swept the Bulgarian capital.

It is expected that the damages from the fire would be repaired as well, the clinic's head Assen Zlatev said. The hospital has allocated BGN 1,5 M for the repairs.

Some 70 medical staff and patients from a neighbouring building were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
