After a week of recess, the staff of the Sofia ER hospital Pirogov renewed their protests on Tuesday morning.

The staff renewed what has now become a regular practice after the Ministry of Health failed to carry out its part of the agreement that was reached last week. One of the failures, according to the medics is that Health Minister Radoslav Gaydarski did not announce the names of the caretaker board of managers of the hospital on Friday as was negotiated previously.

At least 150 doctors, nurses and paramedics gathered to rally in front of Pirogov for an hour.

The hospital's 2,000-strong staff went on strike for the first time on May 18 and threatened to go on effective strike if their demands are not being satisfied.

The protesters demanded wages of BGN 1,600 for doctors, BGN 800 for nurses and BGN 400 for paramedics, as well as new equipment and a change in the status of the hospital, which would allow it to receive state subsidies.

Pirogov is Sofia's main emergency hospital and the biggest in Bulgaria, and is the main destination for patients in critical condition from the entire country.
