Bulgaria's Health Min Appoints New Member of ER Hospital Board under Pressure

Politics | July 9, 2007, Monday // 00:00

Bulgaria's health minister appointed Monday Alexander Chervenyakov a member of the Sofia ER hospital Pirogov's caretaker board of directors over pressure from the striking doctors.

Now the five-member board includes Deputy Health Minister Atanas Dodov as chairman, Vladislav Hristov, Emil Takov, Vessela Dimitrova and doctor Chervenyakov.

Hristov will be the acting CEO of Pirogov until another executive director is elected on August 6.

Meanwhile the ER doctors and nurses said they will renew their protests, which subsided for a while last week, after the health ministry decided to dismiss Pirogov head Spas Spaskov. The hospital staff vowed to go on with their rallies because they feel unsatisfied with the delay of appointing new board of directors and the presence of Emil Takov in the current one.
