A Bulgarian truck driver was killed late on Monday night in Slovenia, the Bulgarian national TV channel reported.

The 55-year-old Milko Manolov was found still alive, lying in a roadside ditch with several gun wounds by the local police. His truck was parked near him on the Maribor - Ljubljana highway.

He was attacked by unknown individuals, who shot several times at him, then pushed him out of the truck, which they dumped after they took what they wanted, according to preliminary information.

He was rushed to the Maribor University Hospital, where he died some hours later. His death was violent, the speaker of the Maribor police said.

Manolov worked for the PIMK Company. This was his third trip to Slovenia and he travelled alone. Previous times he transported goods to Spain and was always accompanied by some of his colleagues.

There is still no official information on the case from the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry.
