Bulgarian Trade Unions, Employers Agree 12,9% Wage Hike

Politics | July 3, 2007, Tuesday // 00:00

Representatives of Bulgaria's main trade unions and employer associations agreed on Tuesday to an average increase of 12,9% to gross wages in the non-service industries.

Representatives of trade unions KNSB and Podkrepa and six employer associations also agreed that if the cabinet cuts the mandatory social security contributions by three percentage points, then employers will raise wages by another two percent.

The trade unions and the employers will work together to evaluate the impact of indirect taxes on salaries, with a view to make joint recommendations to reduce the tax burden in the future.

Trade union representatives claimed earlier that employers have been shirking their duties under the existing social pact between the two parties.
