US President George Bush received positive coverage of his visit to Sofia, Ralitsa Vassileva, the sophisticated Bulgarian anchor at CNN International said during her visit to her home country.
"The media in the US cited the words of Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov, who said that the two countries' relations are in their best state now in more than a hundred years of their establishment," Vassileva pointed out at a meeting with colleagues from the Bulgarian national radio.
"CNN has many rivals on the market now, but its rating is very high and we are proud to be the TV channel that viewers trust most," she said.
Vassileva, who is very famous and always warmly welcomed in Bulgaria, said there are another three Bulgarian journalists, working at CNN.
"We don't say a single word in English when we speak with one another."
Ralitsa Vassileva developed a relationship with CNN by sending reports in English from Bulgaria for a show called World Report.
During a visit to CNN headquarters in Atlanta for a professional program, she was asked by World Report's producer to help her experiment with a dual anchor look for the show.
"So I co-anchored the show. By the way, that was also my debut as an anchor, I'd never done that before in my life! I had no idea all that would lead to a job with the company. But it did," the TV star recalls.
A year later, when CNN decides to build a separate channel for its international viewers, it contacts her in Bulgaria with an anchoring offer.
Since she assumed her duties at CNN International in 1992, Vassileva has anchored coverage of many major international news stories including most recently Israel's withdrawal from Gaza and the death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi.
In addition to her anchoring duties, Vassileva has reported in the field from places like Moscow, Jerusalem and the United Nations.

And Bulgaria did not. What exactly did Bulgaria have in mind when it lowered itself to anal-kissing status to honor the Republican dictator and his band of warmongering, culture-annihilating terrorists? Bulgarians have their heads in the clouds (and their asses) when it comes to being gullible and naive, believing the United States gives a damn about the welfare and well-being of the Bulgarian people, when what it really has in mind for Bulgaria is the use of its land and the use (subjugation) of its people: let us go over the list, shall we? Installation of anti-missile umbrellas (shields)...the stationing of American mercenary troops...installations of American military bases to further aggravate and terrorize the Balkans...and most likely Russia...subverting the Bulgarian populace to American and English junk mentality...as for Kolega and his gang of bottom-feeders: say POP!!!!!, so your ignorant and naive Bulgarian heads can come out of the gigantic American anus.
Read the disturbing article "Bush, Mideast Wars and End-Time Prophecy" and then tell me something positive about your precious American "benefactor and savior" and his group of murderous and maniacal yes-men and hem-kissers..and what he has in mind as he asks for more Bulgarian troops to go to Iraq and get themselves killed for policing and patrolling the new American property that is (or rather was) Iraq...now part of the U.C.A. What is the U.C.A.? The United Corporations of America.

The beauty of Globalization.
It is not America that gives a chance to a talented person from a small country, but a Multinational corporation - important difference that we should all remember.

I threw them all out, and asked the CIA agents at the curb watching me to keep the political riff-raff from my door, and if they did, I might tell them where I his all the WMDs !

SNA,
it may be a very small thing, but my advise to your editors is to avoid qualitative adjectives when telling a story.
If you are on the topic of Ralitca's characteristics, mentioning that she is "sophisticated", would be very appropriate.
"The sophisticated Bulgarian..." sounds unprofessional.
Arabs habitually pepper their speech with unnecessary epithets, much like our Vas here, who could go on for 2 minutes without making as ass of himself:
"Republican dictator", "culture annihilating terrorists" and so on...
Vas, thank you for exhibiting the ultimate naivetГ© though...
"believing the United States gives a damn about the welfare and well-being of the Bulgarian people,"
Any one who believes that is naive indeed, as well as anyone who believes that any country acts out of feelings one way or another.
Countries have no friends, just interests.
The US is engaging us, because it has an interest to do so, and we are responding exactly for the same reason.
Had you guys in Serbia figured that out earlier, may be you wouldn't have lost Kosova, you know;)

Vas,
I would - by far - anytime prefer what you call "the stationing of American mercenary troops" in my country to "the stationing" of your Russian friends.
And as far as ass-kissing is concerned- I remember that in Bulgaria in the late '70ies and early '80ies ( before Gorbachev) there were huge billboards glorifying the "immortal Bulgarian - Soviet friendship" , USSR and the Soviet Communist Party.

Hey, Honterus
Lets have respect for each other, shall we - nobody said that Vas IS Bulgarian....
You have used more Bulgarian words, proverbs and seem better informed about BG than him.
Vas has never commented of a Bulgarian personality or goings on, for fear of showing us his ignorance of the country.
This excrement's point is that Bulgaria's relationship with the States, it's the same as with the USSR - very simplistic and irrational.
It's like saying that if a guy is pushing an old lady on to an oncoming bus, and another is pushing her away from the bus's path, they are pushing her around....
All he talks about is Kosovo too, which is very unusual for a Bulgarian. Cutting Serbia down to its realistic size, has been one of the best things that happen for us in the end of that terrible 20th century, geopolitically speaking.
Bulgaria and Serbia finally have a great relationship, as they should, because Serbia is finally finding herself on the wrong end of expansionist designs, which makes them much more like
us and much more interested in peace and cooperation.
Not to mention that they can now use all the friends they can get, especially EU member ones - something they ultimately aspire to get themselves.
The Kosovo ware was a beautiful thing actually.

I meant no disrespect - communism is about ass-kissing in all countries. It is also about keeping people under psychological and physical terror , or at least , pressure. Claiming that "higher national interests" request people to make sacrifices and that "imperialistic foreign powers" are threathening our "dear fatherland" is also specific to the kind of socialism/communism that we experienced. Personaly I had enough of this kind of speach.
As for Kosovo - the war cannot be beautiful. The Serbs are now paing dearly for sliding on the nationalistic slope. The 1999 war in Yugoslavia (together with 9/11) did got us in NATO some 5-6years before due time by changing the strategic importance of BG&RO. Still, my opinion is that Kosovo's future independence is a dangerous event that might not be in the interests of BG&RO.
I hope I'm wrong but I cannot forsee an alternative scenario to the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo - and then some tough political decisions will have to be made in many countries ( first of all ours).

Honterus:
"I meant no disrespect"
It was a joke.
"Still, my opinion is that Kosovo's future independence is a dangerous event that might not be in the interests of BG&RO."
We'll have to disagree. RO is coming from a different historical point of view throughout the 20th century from BG. Your main national unity and territorial contiguity issues were largely unconnected with the Serbs.
Yugoslavia was a major slap on the face for Bulgaria in 1918 that sealed the fate of any reunification aspirations with Makedonia - largely ethnically Bulgarian at the time.
Countless Bulgarians were cleansed from there, the rest forced to denounced their nationality in order to survive.
This is our experience in which Romania has no part of.
Traditionally the interests of YU and RO has been much more alined and often counter to that of BG including shared enemies - the Germanic and Magyar menace to you - our allies.
Not to mention that with the Cold War, the otherwise key geographical location of BG became dead end corner, easy to isolate, which was definitely part of the dynamic there...
That said, there is a silver-lining in Serbia's misfortune - for them as well.
Sometimes it does take a national tragedy to comprehend your true place in the international community, as well as discovering alternative means for self respect and achievement of national well been and prosperity - i.e. commerce and participation in the Globalized economic and societal structures - it happen to the Germans and the Japanese - both of those, basically superpowers would have continue to cause death and destruction until now, if it wasn't for their tragedies.
Their own people are better off because of it as well...
The time will come when the Serbs will become part of the EU, as well as the Albanians, and I think the important thing here is for the Serbs to swallow their pride and start building better relationship with the people they tried to cleanse in the end of the 20th century - the Albanians, as they are with the people they cleansed in the beginning of that damned century - the Bulgarians.

That's cute WW.
I've never actually watched any of those shows. Never menage to see the attraction of that type of personality based entertainment.
Lake Baseball - will happily live 80+ years in the US without ever knowing what is it about.

Kolega,
Politics aside, I don't think condescension is the correct response to a scientific poll.
