Bulgaria's agriculture minister, a member of the ethnic Turkish partner in the ruling coalition, has demanded that the food industry and rural regions development come under the control of his department.
Minister Nihat Kabil is expected to make the proposal for the establishment of a new mega-ministry at the council of the three-party coalition, comprised by the leaders of the ruling Socialists, the ethnic Turks and former king Simeon Saxe-Coburg.
The suggestion was a reaction to the recently announced plan of Socialist Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev to set up a Forest state agency under the control of his party.
Currently Bulgaria's food, wine and tobacco industry falls in the realm of both the agriculture and economy ministries.
