Bulgaria's Social Workers Start Protests within 2 Weeks

Politics | June 13, 2007, Wednesday // 00:00

The social workers in Bulgaria will go on strike in the next two weeks, representatives of the striking committee warned Wednesday in an interview for the private bTV channel.

They are now symbolically protesting, demanding better working conditions and a 50% rise of their wages.

The social workers were quick to follow the example of the public transport workers, the teachers and the Pirogov Emergency Institute doctors and nurses.

And while the public transport drivers got their pay rise, the doctors and nurses keep protesting and blocking main Sofia boulevards for their rallies.

It is also possible that the teachers will go on effective strike just before the local government elections in the country in September.
