Germany's Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the five Bulgarian nurses on a death row in Libya in Judeyda prison.
The official said he leaded long conversations with the Libyan representatives on the speedy releasing of the jailed Bulgarian medics and the Palestinian doctor.
"Libya has showed understanding on the case and I hope it will come to a positive end at my next visit to Jamahiriya," said Steinmeier, whose country is a rotating president of the EU until the end of this month.
"We will continue putting all the efforts on the case," the minister added.
Steinmeier's visit to Libya coincided with that of the US President George Bush to Bulgaria.
Jamahiriya reacted sharply to Bush's call on it to free the medics as it has been even hinted that such appeals could impede the negotiation process.
