The US first lady Laura Bush noted at a Monday round table that the number of the HIV infected people in Bulgaria is not increasing, which makes the country a good example in the illness' fight.

The spouse of Bulgaria's president Zorka Parvanova and the Health Minister Radoslav Gaydarski have also joined the discussion.

"Only seven case of children, infected with the virus have been registered in Bulgaria since 1984," announced Tonka Varleva, national coordinator of the HIV prevention campaign.

Minister Gaydarski said USD 3,8 M will be allocated for providing blood safety, free HIV tests, treatment and monitoring of infected people all across the country in 2007.

"Bulgaria gets half of the money necessary for HIV prevention from the Global Fund, whose biggest contributor are the USA," the minister added.

During the round table there were discussed the successful practices of consulting patients in specialized cabinets all over the country.

Two women, who suffer from the disease, introduced to the first ladies the efforts they put in protecting the rights of the HIV infected people in Bulgaria.

The spouse of Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov was invited to become a patron of this year's anti-HIV national campaign.

The discussion was held in the framework of the US President George Bush and his spouse's two-day official visit to Bulgaria.
