Dinamo Moscow Buys Bulgarian Striker Genkov

Russian football outfit Dinamo Moscow wrapped up the transfer of Bulgarian striker Tsvetan Genkov from Lokomotiv Sofia for an undisclosed fee, the club said on its website.

"The fee is big, that's all I have to say," Lokomotiv chief executive Ivo Tonev said, adding that he has found a replacement for Genkov already.

Genkov, who was the Bulgarian premier league's top scorer with 27 goals, passed the medical at Dinamo on Saturday, the club Russian said.

He signed a four and a half year deal with the Moscow club and will join his new teammates on July 1.

Genkov was the season's breakthrough player and his goals secured Lokomotiv UEFA Cup football for a second year running.

He will have a similar task at Dinamo, winners of eleven Soviet titles and famous as the home of arguably the greatest goalkeeper ever in Lev Yashin

But the club has fallen on hard times in the past decade, barely avoiding relegation from Russia's top flight twice in the last three years.

The club's last trophy, the Russian Cup, dates back to 1995 and even heavy investment that brought in Portuguese stars Maniche, Derlei and Costinha did not turn around the club's fortunes.

Dinamo is currently ninth in Russia's 16-club premier league, with 15 points from 11 games, five behind leaders CSKA Moscow, but with a game in hand.
