European football governing body UEFA imposed a USD 12,000 fine on the Lithuanian federation for fans waving a racist poster at the European qualifier against France, played on March 24.

The fans have drawn the outlines of the African continent with the French flag on it and the notice below read "Welcome to Europe".

"We hoped that UEFA would not punish us because of that shameful act of racism, but the disciplinary commission took it very seriously," the chairman of Lithuania's football federation commented.
