Eastern Europeans Increasingly Seek Permanent Stay in UK - Study
Bulgaria in EU | May 29, 2007, TuesdayMany migrants, primarily construction workers, farm hands and au pairs, changed their mind after an extended stay in the country, the Joseph Rowntree Foundation report showed.
The Eastern Europeans' desire to stay is unaffected even by the perceived limited contact with Britons and poor knowledge of English.
Four in 10 said Britons treated them as equals, but three out of 10 said they did not, according to the report's data.
One of the chief conclusions of the authors' report is that British authorities should focus more on migrants' integration, as well offering more information on services available to them.
They interviewed 600 working migrants from Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Ukraine and Bulgaria in 2002 and then in 2004.
