Bulgaria's utility prices regulator DKEVR gave on Monday preliminary approval for power utilities in the country to raise prices, starting from July 1.
The regulator is yet to determine exactly by how much will prices be raised, but DKEVR chairman Konstantin Shushulov said it should be no more than a couple of percent for end-users.
A similar increase will be applied to heating prices.
The reasons for the hike are the raising prices of fossil fuels, including the coal and gas that is heavily used by Bulgarian thermal power plants, the shutdown of two nuclear reactors at the Kozloduy plant in January.
