Bulgarian grain producers could lose more than BGN 500 M this year because of the impending drought, the head of the National Grain Service Krasimir Avramov said on Wednesday.

The prognoses show that the wheat yields will be about 130 kilograms per decare compared to 300 kilos in 2006.

The grain producers demanded that the government should declare an emergency and compensate the farmers.

The head of the Waters Directorate in the Environment Ministry warned Tuesday Bulgaria is menaced by facing a completely devastating drought in the summer and autumn months of 2007.
