Bulgaria's Agriculture Fund will have its new head in a couple of weeks, Agriculture Minister Nihat Kabil said on Friday after a meeting with his Latvian counterpart.

Kabil and Latvia's Martins Roze discussed how to improve cooperation between Bulgaria and Latvia in the agriculture area, forestry and fishery.

The new head of the fund will be chosen right after the holidays because currently the board of managers is too busy with other ongoing issues, he added.

The minister confirmed the information that he had offered for the post Alizan Yahova, who is now the deputy CEO of the fund. The minister has chosen her not for political reasons but because of her excellent performance and professionalism.

The former executive of the fund Assen Drumev was dismissed from his post on March 16. He was charged with signing two unprofitable contracts, thus bringing loss of BGN 1 M to the fund.

There are two protected witnesses on the case, whom Drumev has threatened to sack if they gave testimonies.
