Bulgarian customs officers at the Malko Tarnovo checkpoint on the border with Turkey seized close to two kilograms of gold jewellery on Sunday.

The jewellery was found hidden in the speakers of a car entering the country. The driver, a Turkish citizen, has legal alien status in Bulgaria.

This is the fifth time this week that customs officers at the Malko Tarnovo checkpoint have stopped attempts to smuggle jewellery into Bulgaria.

The 17 kilograms of golden jewellery seized this week alone will be confiscated.
