Stoitchkov's Parents Don't Want Him At Their Funeral

Sports | April 20, 2007, Friday

Penka and Stoitchko Stoitchkov, parents of Bulgaria's star soccer player, who recently took the helm of Spanish Celta, say they are planning on denouncing him and wouldn't even want him on their funeral.

We work the whole thay long to make ends meet, the couple tells reporters, and we haven't even heard of or seen our son. It's been 30 years since he hasn't stepped in the village where he was born.

"If you want to know who his mother is, go to Pepa Miteva, his mother-in-law. She seems to be his mother, not me," Penka Stoitchkova says. "Look at my scruffy clothes, while she is covered in jewelry from head to toe like a Christmas tree."

The parents don't know why their son has forgotten his roots, but they say they don't even want to see him again. His mother has taken all his photos off the walls and is only sorry that she has barely seen but a glimpse of her two granddaughters Mihaela and Hristina.

Stoitchkov's younger brother Tsanko commented for Standart daily that this seemed to escalate into a war but refused to meddle. "I'd be between a rock and a hardplace," he said.

Some of the soccer player's friends have commented that he is sick of relatives trying to milk him for his cash. He bought his parents and his brother big apartments, but then his brother needed money to start a business so he sold the place and got a smaller one, they commented.

"I am planning to go to Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov and publicly denounce my son," the player's father said.
