Bulgaria's Supreme Cassation Court is scheduled to come up on Friday with a final verdict on the trial of an 18-year-old teenager, who murdered and dismembered a classmate nearly three years ago.

Kristiyan Petrov was sentenced last year to 11 years in prison and BGN 100,000 of damages to each of the parents of the killed boy after Pernik Regional Court found him guilty of slaying Kristin Ivanov.

The sentence was upheld by Sofia Court of Appeals and appealed by the defence.

The mother of the murdered boy - Emiliya Tomova - insists that Kristiyan spends the rest of his life in jail. "The society should not tolerate this. A man, who has killed another man, is a murderer, regardless of his age," she told journalists last year.

The youngster had first admitted to his crime immediately after the arrest, but later denied it, pleading non guilty. He said that he had gone to the flat where the murder took place after the killing. Petrov also said that he has been beaten in the arrest to sign the confession.

The brutal murder of Kristin Ivanov, 16, was unveiled October 2004 after his dismembered body was found. Parts of the corpse were discovered neatly packed in the fridge of classmate Petrov. The suspect then led investigators to the forest where the other body parts were dumped.

Both the victim and the suspected murderer had no criminal records, and were described by teachers as industrious students.

Kristiyan is currently serving his sentence at the prison in Bobov dol.
