Incubator Moms, Cuckoos Enough in Bulgaria - Social Minister

Bulgaria's Labour and Social Policy Minister Emiliya Maslarova has called for stopping the "incubator moms and cuckoos", referring to Roma women who systematically give birth to children they later abandon.

Malsarova explained that the government has opened four crisis centers for such cases in the country. She added that a total of 10 centers offering complex social services have been opened in just a year.

Parenting is not only a privilege, it is also a responsibility and people should realize that, Maslarova added, Bulgaria's Ombudsman Ginyo Ganev supported her by saying that the children have to grow healthy, educated and in a secure environment.

Maslarova's statement caused outrage in ethnic Evroroma party, and they dubbed it "irresponsible."

"This statement was an expression of open discrimination and ethnic intolerance," the party commented in a statement. Maslarova should think about doing something with all those irresponsible sons and daughters that leave their parents on the hands of the state. They added that it was a known fact that much more cash went for homes for the elderly than for orphanages and it was also a fact that there isn't a single Roma in a nursing home for the elderly.
