Tourists at Bulgaria's hotspot mountain resort of Bansko have dropped by 10 to 15 percent this winter, hotel owners in the area noted.

Yanka Rahova, head of the Tourist Business Alliance in Bansko told Darik News that the drop was most likely due to the lack of advertising. Bansko's skiing conditions are better than those in the rest of the European resorts, she claims, but they need to be advertised better.

"We hope that this is not the beginning of a downward tendency and next year would be better, for Bansko keeps on offering better conditions for tourists," she said.

Rahova pointed out that most guests preferred to book rooms in four-star hotels.

Another reason for the lack of tourist interest in the resort could be the warm winter that brought down the revenues throughout the resorts in Europe.
