Former French Minister Jaques Lang visited the five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor, who are jailed in Libya on charges of spreading a HIV epidemic.

Lang, who is currently the special adviser to socialist president candidate Segolene Royal, spent an hour in the Judeyda prison, talking to th six.

"This is a human tragedy both for the sick children and their families and for the nurses, who are at the end of their strength and feel abandoned," he told the media after the case. "This is why Europeans, French and Libyan have a duty to find a way out and end both sufferings, by finding a solution.

Lang denied that his visit to Libya had anything to do with Royal's presidential campaign.
