Relatives: Harshest Sentence for Driver who Killed 18 in Bulgaria

Crime | April 2, 2007, Monday // 00:00

Relatives of the eighteen people killed in the hellish bus crash near Bulgaria's northern town of Byala have asked for the maximum sentence for the truck driver blamed for the crash.

Sinan Aliev should spend 15 years in prison, the relatives believe.

Earlier in the day Aliev stated before the court in the Danube city of Russe that he did not feel guilty for causing the crash, as he had done everything to prevent the hit.

"I did not go to help the people from the bus as I was shocked and afraid they would attack me," Aliev said.

A total of 18 people were killed on December 7 of 2006, when Aliev's truck hit a bus sending it off the Byala bridge.
