Katya Ilieva, spokeswoman of the Chief Directorate "Combating Organized Crime" with the Interior Ministry, has refused to disclose the motives for her decision and claims it is not connected with the torrent site scandal.
Speculations, however, point otherwise.
The torrent sites controversy was triggered earlier in the month with the arrest of the owner of one of them, the Arena. He was later freed as no evidence against him could be gathered, but the government's raids on torrent sites took hundreds of people to the streets. The major telecom BTC was forced to hire a Brussels-based law firm to help with the complicated local case.
At present access to the torrent sites in question isn't filtered.
Meanwhile other media reports said that Katya Ilieva quit after being put under pressure from the head of Chief Directorate Police. Valentin Petrov reportedly pouted at what he saw as extensive coverage of GDBOP activities in the media.
