The Plovdiv Appellate Court sentenced the son of a Bulgarian deputy minister to three year in prison for causing grievous bodily harm, downgrading an earlier sentence of attempted murder, Darik News reported.
Iliya Yurukov's lawyers successfully argued that their client did not intend to murder the owner of a funeral home. Yurukov shot the undertaker in 2004, later saying the undertaker destroyed his two cars and threatened his wife.
He is also being investigated in a separate case on charges of kidnapping and beating two 17-year-old boys.
"Somebody steals goods from my shops. I suspected the two boys and decided to make them speak," Yurukov said in court in December.
Iliya, 32, is the son of Deputy Agriculture Minister Stefan Yurukov.
