Bulgarian Jailed for 18 Years for Killing Offspring

Crime | March 13, 2007, Tuesday // 00:00

The Regional Court in the Bulgarian town of Yambol sentenced Tuesday to 18-year imprisonment a man, who killed his infant child in an extremely cruel way.

After a domestic row on August 13 2006, Stefan Zlatev, 29, gripped the 3-year-old Nasko by the throat and then dropped him on the ground.

As a result of the falling, the boy suffered a brain-skull trauma. The doctors in a Yambol hospital put all the efforts to save the child's life. He even underwent a surgery in the town of Stara Zagora.

Unfortunately, the boy died on August 20 2006 without even regaining consciousness.

The prosecutor's office demanded life imprisonment. The defence stated that the crime's consequences, time and place have not been specified in the indictment.

The criminal's lawyer said she is to appeal the sentence, as there are no clear motives for the murder.
