Libya Court Delays Bulgarian Nurses' Slander Hearing

Politics | March 11, 2007, Sunday

The Court in Tripoli has adjourned the hearting of the slander trial against the five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor until March 25.

This delay is supposed to give defense lawyers enough time to get acquainted with all the documents concerning the so called "officers' trial" when the torturers were acquitted by the local courts.

The Sunday court hearing only took 30 minutes.

On March 25 the court will also announced whether a new lawyer has been added to the claimants' team. Bulgarian Hari Haralambiev, who traveled to Libya for the hearing said for the state radio that the two claimants are trying to move the hearing from a civil to criminal court.

Right before the hearing Valya Chervenyashka, Valentina Siropulo and Kristiana Valcheva told once again of the tortures they have been subjected to. Siropulo and Snezhana Dimitrova have complained of poor health. They all thanked for the support they have been getting from Bulgaria.
