9% of Bulgarians Suffer from Asthma

Between five and nine percent of the population in Bulgaria suffer from asthma, doctors have announced.

Todor Popov, allergy specialist with the Alexandrovska Hospital, said that the percentage in children in twice as high.

In about 25 years asthma will be one of the main killers worldwide. A total of one billion people suffer from chronic lung diseases all over the world.

Popov and his colleagues presented at a press conference a new way to treat bronchial asthma, allowing for patients to be treated with just one inhaler. At present asthma sufferers have to have two inhalers - one for alleviation and one for treatment.
