Greek police arrested 40 people after a students and professors rally in Athens, who demanded an education reform in the country, Darik News reported on Friday.

Some 9,000 people protested against the government's plan to end the state monopoly on higher education and allowing private universities.

Protesters broke shop windows and several ATMs in the Greek capital, while seven people were injured, forcing the police to use tear gas to break down the rally.
