Bulgaria starts its first project for introducing the electronic technologies in the healthcare system.

The project is part of the National Strategy, adopted by the government in December 2006.

Parts of the project are e-healthcare cards for the patients, delivering of health services on-line and developing of information nets.

The e-healthcare cards' project will be executed by three leading IT companies - ICW, Cisco Systems and KONTRAX, in collaboration with the Health Ministry and the National Health Insurance Fund.

This type of cards, which will be first launched in the town of Slivnitza, will help the more effective handling of the health system and raising the medical services' quality.

The innovations were discussed at a Wednesday press conference, attended by the Health Minister Radoslav Gaydarski, his deputy Valeri Tzekov, the executive directors of the three involved companies as well as doctors and pharmaceutists, who are to join the project.
