Bulgaria's position for the statute of Kosovo is exactly the same as the position of the European Union, country's Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin said Wednesday.

He presented his view on Kosovo's future statute at a sitting of the parliamentary commission on foreign policy.

Bulgaria supports entirely the proposal of Kosovo UN mediator Marti Ahtisaari as the only possible after the 11 rounds of talks between the teams of Pristina and Belgrade.

UN envoy Marti Ahtisaari has suggested a form of self-rule for Kosovo. But many ethnic Albanians - who make up 90 percent of the Serbian province's two million people - want full independence. Repercussions from violent protests in Pristina at the weekend continue to make themselves felt.
