Romanian Women Coming to Give Birth in Bulgaria

Politics | February 15, 2007, Thursday // 00:00

Many Romanian women are interested in giving birth in Bulgaria, happy with the facilities and the relatively low prices.

The maternity hospital in the Danube city of Russe has already assisted in the birth of the first Romanian baby for the year, Standart news reported.

With both countries in the EU, Romanian mothers have no problem coming over to Bulgaria just to give birth. Russe is a preferred destination, because of the Danube Bridge that connects it to Romania's Giurgiu.

In the weekends the Bulgarian city is filled with Romanians on shopping tours who take advantage of the fact that prices in Bulgaria are twice as low as in their own countries. Some Romanians even come to celebrate their birthdays.
