One of the leaders of the Turkish ethnic party in Bulgaria said today's law on voting for MEPs discriminates against all citizens, who have left the country because of its social and economic failures.
Lyutvi Mestan added that the newly accepted law "punishes" thousands of students promoting Bulgaria all over the world and deprives them of their national pride.
"You have won this battle but lost the war for democracy," Mestan said furiously to his fellow MPs.
The argument bursted on Wednesday after the Parliament adopted a law, allowing votes only by people who have lived in Bulgaria or another EU country member in for three months prior to the vote.
After the voting procedure, the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF) left the plenary hall and announced they are leaving the Parliament as well.
