Driver of Killer Truck Has 2 Days to Pay Bail

Crime | February 6, 2007, Tuesday // 00:00

The truck driver, charged with causing the hellish bus crash near Byala that took 18 lives in December, has until Thursday to pay his BGN 10,000 bail.

Sinan Bedriev was allowed bail on Monday, after he had lodged three appeals against the Russe Regional Court's decision to leave him in custody for two months. Bedriev had been behind bars since the date of the crash, December 7, 2006, and the court is now allowing him an out because the two-month deadline for keeping him behind bars is nigh, Russe Info has announced.

The family of Bedriev, 24, will probably have to pay the bail because he claims he doesn't have the money.

An experts' check showed the brakes of the truck were not working properly and that the vehicle had been overloaded. Bedriev knew that, experts claimed, and added those were the main reasons for the crash.
