The grand lady of Bulgarian satire Stoyanka Mutafova has received thousands of congratulations and best wishes for her 85th birthday.
She preferred to mark her anniversary yet again on the theatre stage in an unparallel duo with her colleague Georgi Kaloyanchev in the play "Quartet" by Ronald Harwood. Emilia Radeva and Dimitar Manchev also partnered their beloved friend and colleague in Friday evening's performance.
Stoyanka Mutafova was among the founders of the Satire Theatre in Burgas, in 1957. She has played many roles there in productions of renowned directors.
Stoyanka Mutafova was born February 2, 1922 in Sofia. She graduated classical philology at the University of Sofia "Kliment Ohridski", but went to drama school at the National Theatre. She worked there for a while, then left for Prague where she graduated from the theatre department of the Academy of Art and started working at the Alhambra Theatre.
Stoyanka Moutafova's style and overall aesthetic concept place her in a class of her own, according to critics. "I do not like being called a star. I have not changed over the years, I am still Stoyanka Mutafova," the actress has said on the eve of her 85th birthday.
