Democrats for Strong Bulgaria will send a request to the prosecutor's office for Energy Minister Rumen Ovcharov to be investigated for corruption.

The news came out at a Sunday conference of the hard-line rightist party.

They also called on all Sofia citizens to gather for protest on January 29 and demand that the minister pay their unrealistically high heating bills.

The request was triggered after several weeks ago Ovharov's name appeared in a letter of the jailed ex-Sofia heating utility head Valentin Dimitrov. In his letter Dimitrov quotes the initials R. Ovch., saying he had promised him help. Minister Ovcharov, however, was not questioned.

Dimitrov, who is now tried on accusations of embezzlement and money laundry, has squandered away company money on spa and massage equipment, according to the prosecution.

The rightist hard-liners claim that Minister Ovcharov is under the political protection of Interior Minister Rumen Petkov and once again called for his resignation.
