Macedonian President Website Suffers Hacker Attack

Crime | January 21, 2007, Sunday // 00:00

The official web site of the Macedonian president Branko Crvenkovski suffered a hacker attack Sunday when a message in Bulgarian language sent out a greeting.

The posting noted ironically that it is surprising how enormous efforts some Macedonians pay to worsen the bilateral relations.

Re-wording the motto of Bulgarian Parliament: "Unity makes strength", the unknown hacker calls for putting aside petty rows and work for friendship on both sides of the border.

The Macedonian Presidency has not immediately available with a comment on the unidentified hacker attack.

The hacker message apparently makes a reference to a recent incident in Skopje, when a group of Bulgarians commemorating their local patron Mara Buneva were beaten up last week. Later the same night Buneva's monument was pilfered and all the flowers and wreaths burned to ashes.

Macedonia's envoy to Sofia was immediately summoned to the Foreign Ministry to explain what is going on in his country.
