Romania's EU Commissioner Leonard Orban, in charge of multilingualism, presented his team in Brussels, who are suspected to want to get the upper hand over the English language, EUexpands reported.
The commissioner chose French civil servant Patricia Bugnot to run his team, while German former employee of the EU Parliament Jochen Richter is a deputy chief of cabinet.
Patricia Bugnot worked in the EU Commission already, but also in other EU Institutions. She started her career as an employee of the Council of Europe.
The EUexpands comments that the European press already speculated that by naming Bugnot in this position the French would get un upper hand over the English language (already considered by the French to be over represented).
Orban said that he chose these two from a wide rage of very qualified civil servants that sent their cv's but that he actually placed a French and a German at the head of his team in order to sent a message.
He did not however wish to elaborate on what the message really was.
The commissioner chose former Romanian colleagues Viorel Serbanescu and Silvia Dinca to also be part of his team. Both have worked in the Romanian Mission to the EU in Brussels.
Other members of the cabinet are the Finish Johan Haggman (who also speaks Romanian), the Portuguese Catulina Soares Guerreiro and the Spanish Eva Valle Lagares.
