Politics | March 4, 2002, Monday

Bulgaria’s history shows that we win when we are together, Prime Minister said in his address on National Holiday March 3 at mountain top Shipka, which brought together President Parvanov, Parliamentary Speaker Ognyan Gerzhikov and Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg. Prime Minister Saxe-Coburg pointed out that it is unity Bulgarians need in order to revive the country after so many hardships, so that it may turn into a place where people can live in dignity. “We need unity now when it is up to us to prove we take a well-deserved place among the other nations, “ he underlined. "This is one of the most significant dates in Bulgaria's history," President Parvanov said in his congratulating speech. He underlined that Bulgaria's liberation was also the result of the efforts of Russian and Western intellectuals. The hoisting of the national flag in front of the Monument of the Unknown Soldier in Sofia marked the beginning of the 124th celebration anniversary of Bulgaria’s Liberation from Ottoman Rule. Many citizens and guests of Sofia attended the celebration, including MPs, ministers as well as Russian State Duma Speaker Gennady Seleznyov.
