Bulgaria: Hellish Traffic at Sofia Airport Frustrates Passengers, Relatives Despite the chaos gripping Sofia Airport, most were just happy to be reunited with their family on Christmas. Photo by Yuliana Nikolova (Sofia Photo Agency)

Thousands of Bulgarians, who traveled back to their homeland for the holidays, were frustrated to discover the area of Sofia Airport completely blocked by cars for a second day in a row.

With relatives rushing to greet their loved ones the queues for the airport's parking lot were monstrous, and many parked their cars illegally on the sidewalk or along the road, so they wouldn't have to wait.

Some had to circle the parking lot again and again for half an hour before they could find a spot.

In the meantime, the skulking policemen, who regulated the traffic, were less than civil to the drivers and added to the pre-holiday frustration.

All the nerve-wrecking waiting, was worth it, most admitted, for there is nothing like being with your loved ones on Christmas.
