Bulgaria's President Discusses Medics' Fate With Bush

Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov talked to his US counterpart George Bush to discuss the death sentence of the five nurses jailed in Libya.

Parvanov stated that the Bulgarian society and institutions are enraged by the verdict and urged the US to continue with their help in speeding up the trial.

Bush said that he shared the feelings of the Bulgarian people on the matter of the "unjust verdict against innocent people", and reassured Parvanov that the US will keep on working towards finding a just solution to the case.

The five Bulgarians and a Palestinian doctor were sentenced to death on Tuesday, on accusations of infecting hundreds of Libyan children with HIV. The six have spent over 8 years in jail, where they have been tortured to extract false confessions.
