The Detska Kitka Choir of Plovdiv, directed by prof. Zlatina Deliradeva, grabbed the Grand Prix at Prague's International Festival of Advent and Christmas Music on Saturday.
Bulgaria's children competed against 63 choirs from the UK, Belgium, Croatia, Cyprus, South Africa, the Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Holland, Norway, Singapore, Poland, Portugal and Slovenia.
The Grand Prix is awarded for the best performance in the festival's five categories: male, female, mixed, chamber and children's choirs. Detska Kitka's programme included pieces by J.S. Bach, Felix Mendelsohn, Benjamin Britten, Artemiy Vedel and the young Bulgarian composer Rada Slavinska.
The award ceremony was held at the Industrial Palace in the Czech capital's Exhibition Area. In addition to the Grand Prix Detska Kitka carried away the Gold Medal in the Children's Choirs category.
Detska Kitka's participation in the festival is sponsored by the Czech utility company CEZ and the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture.
