Disabled Sofia citizens will now be able to use the subway more often with the new elevator added at the Lyulin station.

The elevator is equipped with a special platform for wheelchairs and costs about BGN 30,000 Darik News reported.

Obelya and Vardar Stations have already been equipped with similar installations. Two more stations will be fitted for the disabled, bringing the total number of five out of eight, Sofia Mayor Borissov has said.

The stations that are yet to be built will also be equipped with such elevators and once that happens the accessibility of Sofia's underground will surpass that of the tube in the UK, Borissov boasted.

The downtown Serdika station will also be made more accessible by the end of January 2007.
