UK Economy "Boosted" by Migrant Workers - Report

A report by UK's House of the Lords EU Committee has stated that the Union's expansion has only boosted the economy and "put it in a strong position to cope with growing globalisation", BBC reported.

Lots of skilled, low-cost workers from the last 10 countries to join the EU have travelled to the UK and this only helped the country, experts say in their report.

Despite public opposition of the open doors policy, experts urge lawmakers to reconsider closing the labour market for Bulgarians and Romanians, because that would only make workers from those countries join black economy.

Still, fears are rising, because the two countries are perceived as crime-ridden and underdeveloped.

"The Union could be faced with the stark choice between integrating the Western Balkans into the EU or... running them as protectorates," the report said.
