Bulgaria's Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev vehemently denied allegations of a cover-up in the sudden death of the head of the communist secret police files.
He touched on the tragic news during the working meeting of the ruling coalition in the winter resort of Borovets.
"The information about the death of Bozhidar Doychev was not deliberately hidden by the Military Processor's Office," Stanishev said.
He added that changes in the law on the secret file release are possible ahead of the second reading, but only as long as the concept for complete release is preserved.
The death of Bozhidar Doychev was announced with a two-day delay after he was found dead at his desk on Wednesday.
The opposition was quick to turn on the authorities, claiming the timing - just weeks before the files are released, was suspicious. Speculations flooded foreign media reports as well.
Officials insist that Doychev shot himself in the head for personal reasons.
