Bulgaria Steps up Transborder Cooperation with Serbia

Politics | November 14, 2006, Tuesday

Bulgaria's Regional Development Deputy Minister Iskra Mihaylova is in Belgrade in order to discuss the operational programme for transborder cooperation between Bulgaria and Serbia.

The main focus of the meeting will be the debate over the financial plan in the final draft version of the programme.

The draft programme envisages for the period 2007-2013 some EUR 36.9 M to be invested in different projects that are part of the transborder cooperation programme.

Some EUR 31.3 M will be provided by the European Regional Development Fund and through the Instrument for Structural Policies for Pre-Accession (ISPA). The other EUR 5.5 M will come from national co-financing.

The programme will aim at improving the access to transport, information and communication services and at achieving stable development of the transborder systems for environment management.

The transborder project will help Bulgaria and Serbia use the infrastructure to cooperate in different sectors like culture, tourism, education and joint regional planning.

The programme encourages mutual understanding by realisation of successful cooperation models between the business and the state in key spheres.

What is the most important conclusion from the Sofia Mayor elections on November 15, 2009?
That the ruling party GERB of PM Borisov continues to be hugely popular, whereas the Socialists are pretty much out.

That the decline of the Socialist Party has stopped whereas the ruling party GERB has failed to attract the expected very high number of voters.

That the Sofia residents are either completely disillusioned with politics, or care little about who is Mayor.

That the record-high jackpot of the Bulgarian State Lottery "Toto" generated much greater interest than the Mayor elections.
