Bulgarian Citizens to have Thorough View over Belene Power Plant Construction

Bulgaria's people will have a thorough view on the construction of Belene Nuclear Power Plant and the government will not hide anything, said Energy Minister Rumen Ovcharov on the Bulgarian National Television channel.

Bulgaria will export less electrical power from 2007, Ovcharov announced. He said he does not want Bulgaria to be responsible that people in Kosovo may suffer electricity cut-offs.

"We helped these people in summer of 2006, but the country can help no more and I feel obliged to inform Kosovo for that", said Ovcharov for the letter he sent to the EU Commissioner for Energy Andris Piebalgs.

The European Commission believes the shutting down the Kozloduy power plant's third and fourth reactor will not lead to crisis in the region.

Still, Ovcharov repeated Bulgaria will not bare responsibility of what might happen. If there is a crisis, it is European Comission's responsibility to take care of the whole region, Ovcharov added.
