Nationalists Call for Boycott on Bulgarian President Vote

Politics | October 16, 2006, Monday // 00:00

Moderate nationalists from VMRO issued a statement Monday, urging all Bulgarians to go to the polling stations and cross all candidates out, making their ballot inadmissible.

None of the candidates would be able to change the political status-quo in Bulgaria, the statement reads, so the party doesn't accept any of them.

Voters' position on the issue would be much clearer if they submit a ballot in which all candidates have been crossed out, than if they don't show up at the polling stations at all, the nationalists think.

About 60% of Bulgaria's population share our belief that none of the candidates is worth voting for, VMRO stated.

The appeals went on circulation, while some pollster agencies warned of a "sanctioning vote" this Sunday. They projected a dramatically low voter turnout, which would be a clear rejection sign for all presidency candidates.
