US Intelligence: Iraq War Upped Terror Threat

Politics | September 24, 2006, Sunday // 00:00

The US invasion of Iraq has made the country more vulnerable to greater terror threats, US intelligence agencies said in a report, cited by a number of US newspapers.

The report was completed five months ago by the sixteen spy agencies.

The invasion of Iraq spawned a new generation of Islamic fundamentalists, intelligence officials told the New York Times Times.

The report is in full contradiction with the picture the White House statements paint. During the commemorative events that marked the fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on Washington and New York, President Bush said the war in Iraq was a condition for fighting terror.
